Tooth Extraction in Vaughan
A tooth extraction can be performed on troublesome wisdom teeth or baby teeth.
What are wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are the third and final set of molars that most people get in their late teens or early twenties. Although wisdom teeth can be a valuable asset to the mouth when healthy and properly aligned, in most cases the jaw simply does not have enough room for them. Thus, the emergence of wisdom teeth often causes pain from inflammation/infection and damage to surrounding teeth. Using an x-ray, a dentist can help you evaluate the presence and alignment of wisdom teeth. It is easier and less painful to deal with wisdom teeth when they first erupt. The longer you wait, the more developed the roots become, making a later extraction require a longer time to heal.
The procedure
Before a tooth extraction, the patient is administered a local anesthetic to numb the area where the tooth will be removed to make it more comfortable. A general anesthetic may be used, especially if more than one tooth will be removed at the same time. Sometimes, stitches are required after the tooth extraction. The dentist will tell you if the stitches could dissolve over time or if they would have to be manually removed after a few days.
